Pipes are literally bursting everywhere in the United States. Not even Prada gowns and perfect weather could keep the red carpet dry. It was a sunny day in L.A. for Sunday’s 71st annual Golden Globe Awards, and just less than 2 hours before the A-listers arrived, a pipe burst, pouring 5,000 gallons of water onto the carpet where several reporters were stationed with their equipment.
While most people associate bursting pipes with icy cold temperatures, this incident was reportedly generated when a big light used for producing video was placed too close to a heat sensor, which then tripped the sprinkler system. Can happen anywhere. And does.
Water contains a unique property that causes it to expand as it freezes. This growth puts large pressure on its container, including metal or plastic pipes.
